The Saico Motorama Peugeot 206 WRC #46 Michelin is a well-known die-cast scale model (usually produced in scale 1:32) that impersonated an iconic moment in motorsport history. The model proposes the car in which MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi made his first official debut in the World Rally Championship (WRC) during the Rally of Great Britain in 2002.

Important details of the car and the model

Driver: Valentino Rossi ("The Doctor")

Co-pilot: Carlo Cassina

Start number: #46 (Rossi's legendary personal number)

Event: Network Q Rally of Great Britain 2002

Main sponsor/Tires: Michelin (hence the well-known green-white Michelin Network sticker)

Scale model Manufacturer: Saico (often released under the serial name "Motorama")

Historical background

In November 2002, the then brand new MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi temporarily switched from two to four wheels. He hired a competitive Peugeot 206 WRC (the type of car that dominated the WRC at the time and won the constructors' title) to participate in the muddy and treacherous British rally.

The adventure was short-lived. Early in the rally, during the very first stage on the opening day (stage 2, "Resolven"), Rossi slid through the heavy mud of the road and ended up in a ditch. Although the car had hardly any damage, it was stuck and had to give up the Italian. Despite this, this particular car with starting number 46 has become a cult object among collectors of both rally and motorsport merchandise due to the popularity of Rossi.

Collective value

The model of Saico Motorama in scale 1:32 is known as an affordable, but nice detailed die-cast model with French doors. Because the model has been out of production for a long time, it can still be found mainly through platforms such as eBay
