The Real Car

The real Porsche GT2 "Chereau" is a legendary endurance racer based on the Porsche generation. This specific car (with chassis number WP0ZZZ99ZTS394074) was built in March 1997 as a factory-original GT2 R and was bought by the French driver and transport operator Jean-Luc Chéreau.

The car was deployed and prepared by the renowned racing team Larbre Compétition.
Participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (1997)
This specific model with start number #77 rode in the iconic white-grey-red "Chéreau"-livery during the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1997.

The drivers: The car was driven by a full French trio: Jean-Luc Chéreau himself, team owner Jack Leconte and former Formula One driver Jean-Pierre Jarier.

Performance: The team showed impressive speed during qualifying by qualifying as the 1st in the GT2 class (36th overall).

The race: Unfortunately, the car did not reach the finish line. In the 7th hours of the race (after 77 laps) the car had to give up because of a broken transmission.

Technical specifications of the racer
The car was at the time one of the most brutal customer sports cars Porsche offered:

Motor: A rear 3.6-liter air-cooled biturbo flat-six (boxer motor).

Drive: Unlike the standard Turbo, the GT2 had pure rear-wheel drive to comply with international GT regulations, which resulted in a weight saving of hundreds of pounds.

Aerodynamics: Recognizable by the huge, screwed-down widened wheel arches (bolt-on fenders) and the giant rear wing with additional air intakes to power the turbos.

The later life of chassis #074
After the debut in the Chéreau colours, this particular chassis had a rich racing history:

1998: The car returned to Le Mans, but this time sponsored by Sony PlayStation (run again by Larbre).
1999: The car received a factory update to the ultimate GT2 Evo specification, including a rare and more powerful 3.8-liter M64/84 engine.
2000-2001: The car moved to the UK and won the prestigious Oulton Park Gold Cup in the British GT Championship.

Today, this original car is a very sought after multimillion-dollar object in historical motorsport. He still regularly shows up in historic races such as the Masters Endurance Legends and was recently offered.
