The Slotcar
The 1977 Scalextric Ferrari 308 GTB "Makela Auto Tuning" (often released under reference numbers C2974 or C3062) is a beloved 1:32 scale model of a classic rally car. The model is based on a legendary Group 4 rally version that has been restored by the well-known Finnish restoration company Mäkelä Auto Tuning (MAT).

Features
Design & Livery: The car is recognizable by its classic rally look, often decked out with a striking Martini-style livery, extra wide-ranging wheel arches, a roof antenna and additional rally emitters on the nose.
Drive: Equipped with a powerful sidewinder engine setup that ensures fast acceleration and excellent performance on the slot racetrack.
Digital Plug Ready (DPR): The car is prepared for digital racing. With the Scalextric C8515 chip, you can convert it to the Scalextric Digital system within 30 seconds.
Lighting: Equipped with working headlights and taillights for realistic racing in the dark.
Magnatraction: Includes a built-in magnet with adjustable downward pressure for better handling in the corners.
Durability: Equipped with flexible rubber side mirrors and a flexible antenna to minimize damage during crashes

The Real Car
The real Ferrari 308 GTB Group 4 rally cars have a fascinating history, and the specific model that the Scalextric slot car is based on is the work of the Finnish masters of Mäkelä Auto-Tuning (MAT).

Although Ferrari himself preferred the circuit at the time, the legendary Italian tuner Michelotto saw potential in the 308 GTB for rallying. With a blessing from the factory, they built a handful of high-performance Group 4 (and later Group B) rally samples between 1978 and 1985.

The projects of Mäkelä Auto-Tuning (MAT)
Mäkelä Auto-Tuning, based in Kannus (Finland), is known worldwide for their legendary, ultra-detailed restorations of historic racing and rally cars. They have transformed multiple Ferrari 308 GTBs into historic rally cars according to the exact, stringent FIA Group 4 specifications.

Two of their best-known 308 GTB projects are:

The 'Vetroresina' Group 4 (#25393): Based on an early and very rare 308 GTB with a body of fiberglass (vetroresina), which formed the perfect, lightweight base for a historic rally car.

The Alitalia Tribute (#28817): A breathtaking 1980 308 GTB that was completely converted into Group 4 specifications and was shrouded in the iconic green-white-and-white-red Alitalia-livery (known from the Lancia Stratos).

Technical specifications of the real Group 4 308 GTB
If MAT rebuilds or restores a car, they go to extremes. The specifications of these Group 4 samples are impressive:

The Engine: The atmospheric 2.927 cc V8 is being completely revised and tuned to a power output between 288 hp and 330 hp (depending on the carburetor or injection adjustment), with a whining speed that extends to well above 8,000 rpm.

Weight reduction: By using wafer-thin fiberglass or Kevlar body panels, a stripped interior and aluminum components, the car weighs only about 950 to 980 kg.

The Chassis: Wide, knocked-out wheel arches to accommodate thick Campagnolo rims with wide rally tires. In addition, it is equipped with a shorter, manual gearbox (dog ring), a mechanical locking differential, an adjustable brake balance and sturdy independent suspension to catch the blows on unpaved roads.
